This week we continued work on project 2, we also decided that our future scenario was not too distant in the future. We are looking at the near future, in particular 5 years away, the year 2017!
Our statement has been updated and is now as follows:
Emerging from years of recession the community of Brisbane have relinquished the luxurious lives and have ultimately reassessed their relationship with material objects. Communities have shifted their values and as a result major cultural changes have occurred. The community has begun to embrace a more humble and modest lifestyle returning to fundamental ideals. Our most basic needs of love, nourishment and unity underpin the communal mindset and success is today measured not by what we have but by what we can contribute.
During the tutorial our group developed an interesting idea. Paddington Central would become a fusion of four different areas that would shape the lives of the people within the scenario. These four areas are:
EDUTAINMENT AREA
The Edutainment space is an undefined space. the idea is that through blurring the edge of the classroom, children can learn from everyday experiences just as effectively as they can within a classroom environment. The video below shows an interesting vision for future technologies within classrooms.
I think this technology is great, however i think that it cannot work simply on its own. In the edutainment space, this type of learning will make up 50% of the children's curriculum. The remaining 50% will be learning through experience and 'doing'. The Children can use these technologies to explore the City, Country and world that surrounds them. The devices can record and explore their experiences so that they can take them back into the class environment and share their new found knowledge.
CO-CREATION CENTRE
The Co-creation centre is a multi-use space that people within the community and from the public can utilise to design, create, illustrate, build and communicate. The space houses a number of machines that will help people to produce products including laser cutters, 3d rapid prototype machines, printers, pressing machine, vacuum moulding machine and many other pieces of equipment.
Garage Milano is a space that I discovered online and I think it's concept has great potential to be developed further within the Paddington site. The idea of the space is to place young/new designers next to those that are established, and that is exactly what we are doing. It’s simple. For people that have a passion for design, it’s important to let them be seen… within reason of course.

MARKETS/TRADE HUB
The market space runs in conjunction with the Co-creation space. It is somewhere for people to sell the products and designs that they have created within the co-creation space. It is also a space for the residents to sell the produce that they cultivate throughout the site. The money generated is put back into advancing the technologies within the co-creation space, maintaing the buildings and planting new crops. This video illustrates the idea behind what Im aiming to do with the Paddington Central site.

The designboom mart is widely recognized as the ORIGINAL, the first ever design bazaar. in early 2005 designboom created a completely new formula of exhibition and since then we have organized over 20 international marts worldwide, that combine high-profile design with a popular street market setting, making up the cultural program of trade fairs.
FITNESS WELLBEING CENTRE
The Well-fit centre is a new age 'gym'. However the idea is that the space is not one entity, instead the space should reach out into the rest of the site. This creates a lifestyle in which health and fitness are just a normal part of the residents day.
The way in which we monitor our health and fitness is also something that I have found interesting. I think these technologies will continue to develop as we move into a 'fitness age'.
These health monitoring devices can be useful in helping us to manage our diets, exercise, well being and sleep patterns.
Each of the four people in our group is going to concentrate on one particular part of the new Paddington Central. My area is EDUTAINMENT: the entertaining way to educate!
These are some possibilities that I may explore within the Edutainment Zone.
