32 inventions that will change your tomorrow……

I found it very interesting that the products and inventions often provided new ways of going about an everyday activity that in my opinion needs no change. It seems that there is an ever increasing demand on wanting gadgets to do 'work' for us. The shopping cart for example, interprets your list and takes you to your products, alerting you if something is not allowed within your diet. Products like this are continuing to distance us from our food and the relationship that we have with its production. I think we need to go back to a 'grass roots' style of shopping where only the bare essentials are offered. Like a return of the farmers market…..One place for veggies and fruit and one for meat. This also creates a deeper level of engagement among the community.

In terms of how this relates to architecture I think that the ever increasing use of technology is moulding our desires and expectations of the built form. We are constantly expecting things to be done for us e.g. climate control within a building, escalators etc. I think with the introduction of smaller, natural spaces that have a direct relationship with the outdoors are something we need to be placing of upmost importance. The idea of 'basic' living has become very interesting to me and the next few blog entries will be exploring these ideas.
