The
year is 2050 and Brisbane has emerged from a lengthy recession. The residents
of the city have relinquished the luxurious lives and have reassessed their
relationship and dependence upon material items.
As a result, morals have shifted and the community has begun to embrace a more humble and modest lifestyle. Built upon the notion of creating a strong family unit and the development of relationships through social interaction, these ideals have formed a community that have four basic needs and requirements; nourishment, love, shelter and unity. Paddington’s highline aims to fulfill these basic requirements by creating a space in which all four of these activities occur simultaneously.
The
site is very unique in that it is located on a steep ridge. This allows an
intervention that spans from one valley to the other creating a journey from
past to present, former to future and creates a vision that stands as an exemplar
of the possibility of simplicity within a future scenario.
